Salesforce Marketing Cloud – Account Settings Deep Dive

🔹 1. Test Send Thresholds

Test Send Thresholds help prevent accidental overuse or misuse of test sends.

Setting Test limit

⚠️ Warning Threshold

  • Displays a warning notification when test sends exceed a defined limit.
  • You can still proceed by bypassing the warning.
  • Useful for:
    • Avoiding unnecessary bulk test sends
    • Keeping testing controlled

📌 Example:
If threshold = 1, and you try sending to 2 → Warning appears (but can continue).

Exceeding Limit Warning

🚫 Maximum Threshold

  • Displays a strict notification when limit is exceeded.
  • You cannot bypass this limit.
  • Ensures:
    • System protection
    • Prevents misuse or accidental bulk sending

📌 Example:
If max threshold = 100, and you try sending 120 → ❌ Send blocked

🔹 2. Subject & Preheader Validation

This feature prevents sending emails with test or placeholder text.

💡 How it works:

  • System scans:
    • Subject Line
    • Preheader Text
  • Detects common test words like:
    • “Test”
    • “Dummy”
    • “Sample”

🚨 When triggered:

  • During send via:
    • Email Studio (Send Flow)
    • Automation Studio (Email Activity)

⚙️ Customization:

  • You can:
    • ➕ Add custom keywords
    • ✏️ Edit existing ones
    • 💾 Save changes

Added "Offer" to the Subject and preheader Validation

📌 Example:
Subject: “Test Email – Please Ignore” → ⚠️ Warning triggered

Warning for Voilating the Validation

🔹 3. URL Expiration Settings

Setting-up URL Expiration

Controls how long links inside emails remain active.

⏳ Duration Rules:

  • Minimum: 60 days (2 months)
  • Maximum: 730 days (2 years)

📊 Conversion Guide:

DaysMonths
602 months
903 months
1204 months
1806 months
54018 months
73024 months

🔁 What happens after expiration?

  • All links will:
👉 Redirect to a predefined URL

🔧 Options:

3.1 System Default URL

  • SFMC provides a default redirect page
  • No customization needed

3.2 Custom Defined URL

  • You define your own redirect page
  • Example:
    • Homepage
    • Offer expired page
    • Campaign fallback page

⚠️ Important Behavior:

  • Increasing duration:
    • Expired links become active again
  • Decreasing duration:
    • Active links expire immediately

🔹 4. Header & Footer Settings

Setting Header and Footer as "None"

❌ If Header/Footer is NOT set:

Error without Header and Footer

  • System throws error during send
  • Email cannot be sent

✅ How to fix:

Option 1: Set Default Header/Footer

  • Configure at account level

Option 2: Add Manually in Email

You can insert via HTML Code Snippet 👇
